Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a virus that slowly destroys the body’s ability to fight infections and the cells of the immune system. The most advanced stage of the disease is acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), which is manifested as a combination of specific diseases, symptoms and infections.
